ELENA RAZLOG

Described as “stunning” for her portrayal of Ulrica in Un Ballo in Maschera (Vancouver Entertainment), mezzo-soprano Elena Razlog brings passion and expressiveness to both operatic and concert repertoire.  Ms. Razlog is an engaged mezzo-soprano at Vancouver Opera.  She is a co-producer and performer in Opera, Fairy Tales and Magic!, an operatic show featured at the 2019 Vancouver Opera Festival and subsequently presented as part of Vancouver Opera’s 2020–2021 Digital Season.

 

Her operatic and operetta roles include Olga in Eugene Onegin, Ulrica in Un Ballo in Maschera, Flora in La Traviata, Marcellina in Le Nozze di Figaro, Barbara in Eine Nacht in Venedig, among others, in productions by UBC Opera, Opera Mariposa, and other Vancouver-based companies.

 

As a guest soloist, Elena has performed with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, UBC Symphony Orchestra, Plzen Opera Orchestra, and Karlovy Vary Opera Orchestra in the Czech Republic, among others.  She has been a returning artist with New York Lyric Opera and has appeared as a soloist in the company’s gala at Carnegie Hall.  Other concert highlights include Gypsy Dances with the UBC Symphony Orchestra, a program dedicated to the music of Emmerich Kálmán that was recorded and broadcast by CBC. Elena appeared as a guest soloist in the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra’s popular Tea & Trumpets concert series, presented annually at the historic Orpheum Theatre in the heart of Vancouver. Ms. Razlog was also a soloist in the musical The Roads, a production by Broadway Theatre, New York, which toured throughout the United States, Europe, and Japan.

 

Elena holds Master’s Degree from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada (M.MUS’17 in Opera), and Diploma in Voice Performance (DIPL’16) from the same university.  In addition, she holds B.A. in Education (major in Linguistics); International Relations and Cross-Cultural Communications, as well as Diploma in Music Teaching (major in Choir Conducting).  

 

Ms. Razlog is a sought-after vocal coach with over twelve years of teaching experience, including work with Selina Music Academy and Wonderland Arts Academy in Vancouver, as well as an established private teaching practice. Elena also works as a language and diction coach, preparing singers and ensembles for Russian-language repertoire. Her coaching credits include works by Tchaikovsky for Vancouver Opera and UBC Opera; Mieczysław Weinberg’s The Passenger for UBC Opera; Prokofiev’s cantata Alexander Nevsky; and Rachmaninov’s All-Night Vigil, performed by the Vancouver Bach Choir and Elektra Women’s Choir.

In addition to her career as a classical singer and vocal coach, Elena is passionate about costume design and creation for opera and theatre. A graduate of CUT Vancouver Fashion Academy, she has also pursued additional training in the history of costume. She has contributed to costume creation for a variety of productions, with much of her experience gained through the costume departments of Vancouver Opera and UBC Opera, where she continues to be invited to collaborate on productions.
